Sims unable to pick up seeds or plant anything?

I started a new game last week and I was able to pick up all seeds and plant tomoatoes lettuces and apples but now I can't even pick seeds up? It doesn't highlight them when I hover over them and the plant here option isn't there when I try and plant fruit or vegetables I'm level 7 at gardening so it's nothing to do with that is there anyway I can fix this?
