1990s movie with a human and alien that hate each other get stuck fighting for survival together?

I thought it was kevin costner as the main character but idk. Iknow the end the alien gives birth to a child and dies and the human raises the child. Also in this movie there are these hard shelled sand digging creatures. Idk for sure if it was in the 1990s but i think so.
